Camp Executive Director - Full Time

The Camp Executive Director is responsible for delivering quality character programs for children, families, and conference groups. The incumbent ensures that facilities and equipment are maintained, select, train, and manage a diverse and quality staff. Under the direction of the VP of Camp Operations, the Camp Executive Director directs and implements a positive, progressive camping program.
We are looking for a dynamic outdoor professional with significant experience in planning, leading and supervising wilderness programs for families, as well as top-notch fundraising, facility management, and volunteer engagement skills. This Executive Director position is located in the Twin Cities during the September-May months (with some weekends at camp), and is onsite with camp-provided housing during the summer months (near Ely, MN.) Camp du Nord is unique among YMCA camps in that it provides programs primarily for families.
YMCA Camp du Nord's mission: Our mission is to strengthen families by providing opportunities for individual and family growth, supporting spiritual development and enhancing environmental awareness in a wilderness setting.
Essential Functions:
Direct a progressive camping program and conference and retreat program.
Supervise fulltime Conference Coordinator and Assistant Camp Director.
Recruit, hire, train, and supervise the seasonal staff of 60+.
Develop, implement, and coordinate marketing efforts for recruitment and retention of campers.
Develop and implement recruiting and retention strategies for diverse seasonal work force.
Develop cutting edge curriculum in the areas of leadership development, progressive skill development, and character development.
Serve as a participant and member of the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities program and professional staff in the Annual Y Partners Campaign, Program Cabinet, United Way, etc. and as assigned in staff leadership role in annual fund-raising drive and other fund-raising activities.
Participate and supervise accurate and comprehensive records and files, including participant evaluations as well as full-time and part-time staff evaluations.
Evaluate the camp's programs continually, involving staff, group leaders, group participants, campers, parents, and facility. Advice administrative and maintenance staff and Community Board of operational needs and challenges.
Adhere to and receive American Camp Association accreditation.
Act as staff liaison to Camp's Community Board of Management and their chart of work.
Work with Camping Services Leadership team (property, finance, communications, and financial development) to attain goals and objectives.
Relationships:
This position reports to the VP of Camp Operations who reports to the Chief Operating Officer. The incumbent interacts regularly with camp participants, general public, summer staff, and volunteers.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience,
Minimum of three (3) years of management experience to include supervision and budgets.
Progressive programming and management experience in an outdoor residential environment.
Experienced in the outdoors and as an overnight staff member for more than three summers.
Willing to live on-site in camp provided housing during program months.
Demonstrated skills in supervision, organizational systems, camping program development, and financial management.
Understands and able to develop and implement curriculum.
Demonstrated skills in customer service, large and small group communications, leadership, and group work with adults, teens and children.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and other computer programs necessary to perform the duties of the job.

Must be able to work on a computer for an extended period of time.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
